Last year, Jon Audain, the beloved Director of Music of Warsash Band, sadly lost his fight with cancer. Jon was a passionate musician and dedicated leader, who led and coached the band, inspired individuals and gave so much of himself to make Warsash Band the popular community band that it is today.

The band feels that Jon's dedication to music, education and the community needs to be remembered, and there is only one fitting tribute: a piece of music! They have commissioned legendary wind band composer Philip Sparke to create an original work dedicated to Jon.

While in hospital, Jon was told of the band's plan and was blown away by it. He could not believe that such a world-renowned composer would compose a piece just for him. Jon's request was that the music should be a 'bright piece that reflects the sea and the water that is central to what Warsash is.'

As well as commissioning the piece, the band aims to make a studio recording of it to give to Jon's family. They recognise that this will be an expensive venture, but to have the world share in something that Jon was so passionate about would be an amazing tribute to him. Bands around the world will play his piece, spreading Jon's name and the essence of Warsash far and wide!

Jon was well known and much loved by so many people, and many of you reading this will have seen first hand the impact he had on the musical and wider community, both in Warsash and further afield.
