Twinning Association With Vannes
The Warsash Band is an active participant in the Fareham-Vannes Twinning Association (FVTA), and holds regular exchange visits with the Ecole de Musique in Vannes.
Our friends from Vannes last visited us in April 2009. They enjoyed a packed weekend which included a successful concert and buffet supper at the
Victory Hall and the chance to play at the historic Fort Nelson. An evening of ten pin bowling and a visit to Portsmouth's Spinnaker Tower rounded off
the weekend and did much to cement Anglo-French relations. We would particularly like to thank the
Fareham-Vannes Twinning Association whose generous financial support was instrumental
in making the weekend such a success.
Warsash Band members paid a return visit for a glorious weekend of music making over an extended Easter break in 2010, with many of the band staying with their old friends from the previous year. The hospitality of all the host families in Vannes was overwhelming and many new friendships were made. The Conservatoire de Musique de Vannes planned an excellent weekend for us, including visits to the historic Cairn de l'île de Gavrinis and the beautiful Château de Suscinio. But of course the music was the main reason for our visit and we had the privilege of performing to a packed house in the fine concert hall of the Conservatoire. We also enjoyed taking part in an evening of food and music in the impressive L'Espace du Golfe; and evening which included a number of pieces played by a combined Vannes-Warsash band. See the FVTA newsletter for a more detailed account of a most enjoyable weekend.
